Prof. Dr. Halit Turgay is a distinguished flutist, composer, and educator whose artistry transcends borders and disciplines. With a career that seamlessly bridges performance, composition, and pedagogy, he is celebrated for his poetic musical language and deeply evocative works that draw on mythology, nature, and cultural memory.
He currently teaches as a Professor at Maltepe University Conservatory in Istanbul, while continuing to appear internationally as a soloist and composer. He was invited to join the faculty of the Symphony Academy at Tsinghua University / International School in Beijing, where he contributed to the development of young talents in one of Asia’s leading academic institutions.
Turgay’s performance career includes collaborations with internationally acclaimed ensembles such as I Musici di Roma and the London Octave Chamber Orchestra, earning widespread acclaim for his expressive tone and technical brilliance.
An alumnus of the Royal Academy of Music in London, Turgay studied under legendary flutist William Bennett, following his receipt of the Skene Award at the Aberdeen International Festival for Young Musicians and a full scholarship from the British Cultural Council. He holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Music Performance from Istanbul University State Conservatory.
